The Co_Incidence series of watercolour paintings were created for an exhibition entitled 'At Water's Edge'. They feature the rugged beauty of cliff faces, rocky outcrops and waves on Tory Island, Donegal and reflect the constant change in the land made by wave, wind, rain and sun.
persona-eXgratia is an 'art-form' developed by Ian Fleming through which he is exploring identity
In the same way that a playwright creates a cast of characters and then writes dialogue between them, Ian has developed 12 different identities each of which produces artworks that relate to a single subject, in a unique style and within a narrow range of media.
Whereas the playwright’s characters exist only within the pages of a play, or a theatre performance, Ian's intention is to live aspects of the lives of his 12 identities, and through artistic collaboration he plans to explore aspects of identity as a practice based research project.
That begs the question… Why? The answer has many layers. On the wider spectrum, things that happened in Northern Ireland during 30 years of ‘Troubles’, and also the inhumane acts that took place in Europe during the 1930s and 40s.
On a personal level it is a vehicle for an artistic exploration of the artist’s personal life experiences that have helped form his own ‘sense of self’. On a communal level, it enables an examination of the elements, which generate ‘difference’ between groups of human beings and the resulting constructive or destructive effects on individual ‘identity’ and personal well-being.
The website is at an early stage of development, but further information and imagery will be published in due course. However if you want to know more now - feel free to get in touch...

Ullans Academy Feast Day of Columbanus Celebration
Presentation of "We are all one piece of the peace" artworks to President Mary McAleese & Lord Bannside (Ian Paisley)
The Ullans Academy commissioned Ian Fleming from Creative Exchange Artist Studios to produce an artwork to be presented to The President & Lord Bannside on 23.11.10
"Creative Exchange Director and local artist Ian Fleming was commissioned to produce a piece of art to give to the two special guest speakers. At first refusing to produce two copies of the same work, he instead created two interlocking jigsaw pieces that can be lifted out of their frames and locked together. Columbanus means “white dove” and it’s present on the two pieces, locked in a cage of “decommissioned” barbed wire. The Belfast Lough coastline and Bangor are also represented on both parts of the jigsaw."
TB Healthcare is a ‘translational medicine’ company based in Foshan, Guangdong Province and is a partnership between scientists in the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the local government and medical professionals working in TB hospitals and the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.
The Chinese name for TB Healthcare is 广东体必康生物科技有限公司 but will be known as 体必康 for short, pronounced T – B - Kang. 体means ‘body’, 必 means ‘must’, 康 means ‘healthy’. In Chinese, this is a reasonably good play on words. The sound Kang (although a different word) can also mean to fight or oppose.
TB Healthcare translates medical research findings into clinical solutions.
In the area of TB care, they will target 3 key bottlenecks:
1. lack of new drugs (and serious levels of resistance to old drugs),
2. lack of quick, accurate and effective diagnostic methods (many TB cases go undetected and other patients die before they get the results of tests), and
3. there is no effective vaccine.
TB Healthcare works in all three of these areas, applying the latest technological insights and techniques to develop new solutions to combat this ancient disease.
In July 2013 TB Healthcare asked Ian Fleming to produce a wordmark and branding elements for the organisation... the project is currently on-going.
